Resistance and Allowing

Clearly, healing is not what you are about every minute of every day. But checking in with your essential core daily anchors you. It also teaches humility. It allows us to release our fascination with external diversions and experience the eternal peace at our core. Of course, we have built up layer upon layer of defenses which hide our peaceful core from us.

We build our defenses and distort our experience of our peaceful core when we don't feel our feelings in the moment. We all do this and we don't know we are doing it. It's too vulnerable and too scary and too uncomfortable to feel everything. Besides it's not attractive or acceptable in sophisticated company. We layer our defenses against feeling our feelings for years and decades so that when we do decide to sit and practice stillness we encounter unhealed wounds and sadness and rage and fear that have been stuffed and denied and forgotten.

But whatever we've not let ourselves feel stays with us and hides our essential core.  therefore we can't experience the peace which still lives in us. Experiencing this peace heals us. Every step along the way of experiencing our old hurts leads us closer to healing. So, when we sit and allow, we feel the latest layer of buried feelings. We want to experience peace but we encounter gunk we haven't wanted to feel which hasn't evaporated (as we had hoped).

Healing involves allowing ourselves to move through these layers. As long as it takes, we show up, we practice presence and we allow heling. Just by practicing presence, we allow healing. And healing emotionally allows healing physically.

Will you sit, practice stillness, and feel whatever arises?

Do this exercise daily and notice what your experience is. Whatever surfaces is not as interesting as your reaction to your feelings. Can you stay open to every feeling? Some feelings may make sense to you but some won’t. It doesn't matter. Stay open and feel whatever moves through you. By doing this you'll learn non-resistance.

Resistance is:

chasing an outcome in a determined manner

relying upon your intellect to get you to healing when your intellect can’t effect healing

avoiding vulnerability

preferring to eliminate parts of yourself instead of integrating every part of yourself

diminishing your feelings instead of respecting them

identifying with your fear instead of observing it

staying in your human center instead of moving into your eternal center

wanting to be good/strong/invulnerable

Allowing is:

accepting whatever feeling exists in the second

trusting that you are carried to healing when you sit in stillness even though you don't know what that means

welcoming surprises regardless of how they feel

not thinking unless you are solving a problem

identifying with the present moment, not the past

knowing yourself healed before you see it

Consider this:

After years of talking and reading and journal writing, pull the curtain on your past. Declare victory and appreciate yourself. No matter what the details of the past, the present and the future offer immense possibility. But only if you can stay in the present and anticipate a beautiful future. The past doesn't exist anywhere but in your head.

You've done good work. If you stay present anything additional that needs to be healed will arise. You'll notice it and allow it and it will be healed. But you don't have to think about it.

Source works with you and in you and as you today and this second and every second of your life. Enjoy that!
